Where I work we put two handwritten ID bands on babies - one on a wrist and
the other on the ankle. The first is placed on at birth and has b/o, mums ur
no., and dob. The second is placed on shortly after (often at bath) and has
all the above details plus the babies own ur no.
The labels are checked as part of the daily check, and signed for on the
careplan. Sometimes a label will fall off, but there is always the other one
remaining. Replacing a label that has come off requires checking by two
midwives with both signing in the babies notes.
