Explanation: The Y-shaped, forked uterus occurs in a wide range of varieties. Externally it may have only a shallow notch( arcuate uterus), o it may be cleved so deeply as to be called a "double uterus". The internal septum may be partial, or it may extend down to the cervix, creating two seperate cavities. The distinguishing charateristics of this uterus, regardless of the extent of fundal notching, is the cervix. The term "bicornuate"is limited to a forked uterus having a single cervix, rather than one having a double cervix.
