Hi, I have a 'Strawberry Perl' page on the http://www.wxperl.co.uk site - so I'll update that and make it more prominent. I'll put in some instructions for a PAR::Dist install pointing at your par files. Or perhaps there is a URL at strawberryperl.com it would be better to point at? An 'installing wxPerl using PAR::Dist' page there would be quite useful, I think. All related sites could then point Strawberry users at that.
I plan to provide x64 builds for Windows and Linux after release of wxWidgets 2.8.11 but I'll probably throw in the mingw towel and submit to MSVC 8.0. There's a whole raft of reasons - but the main one is it will involve zero extra effort for me. The x64 build issues are mingw-w64 specific as far as I can see (though these may be fixed in 2.8.11) so I'm just going to take the path of least resistance and switch compilers. I'm confident that MSVC 8.0 built PPMs would work for everyone, whereas at the current moment in time I'm not so sure about mingw-w64 and I don't have the resource to test it or skillset to fix it. This is all based on totally untested assumptions and maybe an x64 MSVC 8.0 build won't be so simple after all. The fact that you provide .par dists is great and one less reason for me to remain with mingw build system. It would probably be nice if you built the par dist files against the platform SDK too - so you can deliver a fully featured wxWidgets / wxPerl. (currently just gdiplus requires SDK but no doubt the list will grow). That would mean the par dist of Alien-wxWidgets, in addition to being a convenience, would remove the need for end users to have an SDK installed just to build a fully featured wxWidgets. (You don't need the SDK to build Wx).
