We use PowerGlot with System 8.5.1 for our Japanese translation. The System 8.5
installer comes with the option of installing the Japanese character set
(view-only... no built-in input method). Our Japanese partners send us the
translations and we drop them into PowerGlot to make sure that everything looks
okay.
The only hitch we've had is that the PalmRez compiler calculates the widths of
menus based on the raw 2-byte text. This causes link errors when the Rez
compiler thinks the menu items are too wide for the screen. I ended up hacking
the compiler so that it automatically sets the width of menus that are too wide
to 160.
Of course, there's another problem related to the same issue. The menus have
too much white space to the right of the text. To solve this problem, I created
a Quadrivio General Edit script that parses a .prc and allows you to manually
edit the bounds of the menus. It's a tedious work-around, but (since it's an
aesthetic, not a functional problem) it only has to be done once for the final
release.
