But even Microsoft gets behind the curve. For example, it took them two
full releases of VC++ before finally supporting the IE controls (e.g.,
rebar, flatbar, etc.) Delphi programmers used them before most VC++ users
had access to them.
My own background is Unix. Some of the things we've had in Unix for decades
are still not available in Windows. I think Windows 2000 will finally get
kerberos. Many things available in Windows will never be in Unix. This is
just a fact of life. We always make choices and compromises.

Yes, but things are improving all the time. I have faith in the folks at
Palm Computing. From what I've seen, they genuinely want to make life
better for developers. I don't have such faith on the WinCE side of things.
I feel MS just wants to make a dollar out of me. Then again, I'm still a
newbie to this Palm platform, let's see how I feel over time.
