Well, I guess I'm just not part of the mainstream.
Sure, color looks pretty, and when properly applied, makes for a better
user interface. But I see more software that *doesn't* make good use of
color than the other way around.
Personally, I'm tired of throwing away batteries in pagers, cameras, remote
controls and an increasing list of portable devices. Yes, I recharge my
cell phone on a frequent basis and it works fine. But I spend a *lot* more
time thinking about the battery (oops, I need to remember to plug it in)
than
I should have to. Technology is the slave to me, not the other way around.
I think of, and use, my Pilot in terms of its *content*, not the medium
(or its batteries).
Finally, regardless of battery life, from direct personal experience of
owning
a Casio Cassiopeia and the Palm Pilot Pro, it's no question: I prefer the
usability
of the pilot software! I like free-form fields in my address book; some of
my
phone numbers don't fit the (###)###-#### format. I like being able to
change
the last name of an address book entry; I don't know why I can't do that
with
the CE software (yes, I know it's a key field, but that doesn't explain why
I
can't change it and have the list re-sorted). I like seeing my "note" when
initially viewing the record (not have another field to tap on to see the
note).
There are many other examples...
Dave.
