Aaron,
I tried a null modem prior to sending my first email. It didn't work that
way either. It did allow the TX and RX to be lined up correctly, but there
evidently was some other pins still not right....probably RTS/CTS. Thanks
for the input though!
I am going to order the Modem cable from Palm and go that way.

which is also known as a "null modem" - you should be able to
purchase an adapter from a common computer hardware store.
