Ok, from what I know...
The white border may look like "visible pixels" but these border pixels are
NOT addressable. That is, these pixels are outside the 160x160 memory
window, and the SED1375 LCD controller cannot address them nor control them,
directly. I tested this by connecting a Palm IIIc to PalmDebugger and then
directly accessing the LCD VRAM region of memory.
The border area "pixels" are probably HARD-WIRED to white (full
illumination) within the TFT panel itself, and they light up when the panel
is powered on. Since the LCD controller can't change them, if the physical
TFT LCD panel itself does not have support signals for the border, then
you're gonna be stuck with white pixels.
I would bet that these aren't really pixels, but just simply white dots. :)
That is, I betcha you can't make them blue, or green, or any other color,
and probably the only way to make em black is to turn off the LCD power.
My 1,024 cents worth.
Doug.

I'd like to know that. From my examination, they are active pixels just
like the rest of the screen.

It may come down to that.
