If people truly wanted complex, Windows type applications for the palm of
their hand, the Toshiba Libretto
(http://www.zdnet.com/pcmag/features/jit/libretto/libretto.htm) would have
taken off more than it has. Sure, its pricey, but it is real 32 bit Windows
95 in a two pound hand-held.. no WinCE-ing here.. this is a real pocket PC.

Palm has done well and continues to do well precisely for the reasons stated
by the Palm president the other day.. they are dedicated to keeping it
simple. Simple wireless devices are next and as battery tech improves, the
MP3 and other things that are common on desktops now will become common on
hand helds. Remember, 6 years ago, the PDA market was virtually non existent
and many Palm (and even WinCE) aficionados could not have imagined in their
wildest dreams giving up their Franklin planners.. now Franklin sells a Palm
bundle. :)

A move towards scalability is great, but Palm has done its best work and had
its best acceptance by remembering its roots.
