One reason I can think of that you might want to check if a creator code is
present is to see if a particular app/db is loaded on the Palm (a required
supplement, a known conflicting program, ???). Could be useful, and
certainly not going to damage anything. Creating codes on the fly based on
such a search is indeed a Bad Idea, though.
