Fiddling further, I checked and noticed a newer PilotInstall (4.9.0.0) which I 
installed, and USB connection now works again. If the usbport.dll is not placed 
in the PilotInstall directory, it is mentioned in the About box, but that does 
not prevent things from working.

As for USB on-device debugging with my T3, CW 9.3 keeps telling me the 
connection failed, no matter where I relocate the usbport.dll.

Must the HotSync Manager be stopped during debugging? (here the CW debugger 
doesn't connect whether the Hotsync Manager is present or not :(
