There are desktop-to-desktop null modems, but nothing going the other
way. Basically the plug-and-playwithyourconfiguntilitconnects is a
"feature", so requires drivers on the "host" side to decide what kind
of thing is out there and what to do with it.
Firewire doesn't have this kind of problem, but isn't found
universally.
