Its impossible to start a hotsync from the host side without modifying the
cradle hardware. You may want to repost your question to the symbol
developer forum (since you'll need information on the vcd to modify it).

I've seen that when a 1700 is put into a standard cradle it will wakeup and
start the hotsync application. Using the VCD (vehicle cradle) this wakeup
does not happen, obviously because most of the time a hotsync from a vehicle
is unwanted. However, what I would like to achieve is similar behaviour:
-1 on insering the terminal in the vcd, wake up the terminal
-2 receive an event in my program (assume it's the currently running
program)
-3 on "insert into vcd" event start a modem connection to the host system
from my program (after some interval time)
I need help on items 1 and 2, please advice.
