If your 1700 wakes-up when put in a regular cradle, it should
also do that in a vehicle cradle, provided the vehicle cradle has power
supplied to it. I don't think the 1700 really knows what kind
of cradle it is being put into.
More importantly, you say that the 1700 automatically HotSync's
when put in the cradle! I've not seen any 1700's do that.
Perhaps there's a preference option I haven't used.
More likely someone either hot-wired the cradle to do that (not
advisable, but possible) or there's some special hack or software
module implemented which is not working in the vehicle cradle.
Find out what's making the 1700 automatically HotSync when
put in the regular cradle!
My solution to this would be to have the application continually
check for presence of external power, and if present, fire off HotSync.
