There are many devices extant that automatically set/unset DST. For probably
better than 95% of the US, and the majority of the world, the rules are
fairly simple and easy to implement in software.
I would think that the right thing for Palm to do would be to implement the
standard rules for the majority of the world's countries, and then include a
simple toggle for turning the auto-adjust on or off. This would mean that
the vast majority of Palm users would benefit from the auto-adjust, and the
few for whom the auto-adjust doesn't work right in their locale can easily
turn it off and do it manually.
True, most timekeeping devices need manual adjustment (I counted thirteen
that I had to adjust last weekend), but the more that do it automatically
the better, don't you think?

which you can turn daylight saving time on or off. This automatically
adjusts the system clock by an hour, as expected. There is no reminder
facility or automatic application of daylight saving time. The user is
expected to create two repeating events if they'd like to be reminded of the
need to turn DST on or off. Since so many other clocks/watches/etc need to
be manually adjusted, you'd still want to be told about DST, even if it were
automatically turned on or off. The rules for DST vary from place to place,
and are much more complex than most people think. In the US, for example,
most states observe the federally defined DST rules, but some states choose
not to participate, and some counties choose to go their own way, differing
on DST policy from the state they are part of. Palm OS currently makes no
attempt to define DST rules according to the locale you specify.
