Steve (or anybody) -

The question I have regarding this subject, and your product, is that
if I put together an application which would require the user to import
their own CSV database, (using p-rad for example), how would I
distribute the app without p-rad? For these types of utilities, what is
the general practice? Refer users to www.csv_to_pdb_software_website.com
and then have them be responsible for registering their own version?
Is there a licensing fee involved that would enable me to deliver my app
with the third part CSV tool bundled with it?

Perhaps I'm not understanding this though and would have to write my
own conduit to get something from the user's Excel sheet into my
application.

I've seen JFile and other similar applications for sale. Now to be fair, I
haven't
looked into the details of how the development cycle works with these, but I
would want to develop an app. that would accept (for ex.) a JFile database.

Do I have to include JFile with my software or is it possible to "embed"
that
within my application? (This would be like having the full up version of
Access
on your machine, or getting a run-time version so you can just run the
database
application).

I've seen the many utilities out there, but those would be just for my use
and not
redistribution.

John

There are variety of utilities out there that can do that. Here's a
pointer to one: http://www.p-rad.com (Truth in Advertising: this is
our product). Ray Rischpater and I also describe and include full
source code for a Java-based utility in our book Advanced Palm
Programming. You might also want to do a search a PalmGear or
Handango.
