This has already been fully explained.  Palm, Inc. owns several trademarks.
If they want to keep their trademarked terms from being diluted until they
become generic, they have to make a good faith effort to enforce their
trademark rights.

The sites that continue are those who make an effort to use the trademarked
names properly.  Sites that don't use the trademarked terms properly are
told to change.

Palm publishes a paper about how you can and can not use their trademarked
names.  If you are not sure about what names you can and can't use, consult
that paper.  Palm isn't doing anything to try to alienate users or
developers -- they just have to act to preserve their trademark rights.
