I don't agree.  IMHO, this logic is desirable when:

1. There's a very good chance the library will work.
2. There's only a small chance it will crash.
3. There's no chance the crash will harm the device or data.
4. The user is informed in simple terms of the possible minor inconvenience
of the crash.

My users will be more frustrated by waiting for me to update my software for
their brand-new device than by risking a harmless crash that will almost
certainly not occur if the hardware for the new device didn't change
dramatically.
