Well, there's always that undocumented system-use-only function called HwrDisplayAttributes starting with OS version 3.5. A few of its operations have been semi-documented in the forum or are just generally known, but I haven't read any postings on whether this API can identify the controller itself. However it sure would be way cool if its other undocumented options could indeed return a 4-byte code for the controller, or a string name, version number, whatever. <hint> Isn't POSE often a great source of enlightenment?
