to the PC is better than HotSync where you are only connected for a brief
time.  With ActiveSync, you can copy files to/from the PC and browse the
internet at any time you are connected.  Without purchasing additional
software.

HotSync was a better solution when devices were run off a non-rechargeable battery, and having them keep a constant serial connection to the desktop would have drained their power source quickly. I agree that with rechargeable units, a bridged connection would be a good thing, but it isn't available right now as part of the standard system, and it's not a part of the initial Palm OS Cobalt desktop software either.
