Thanks for keeping me honest, Erik. You're right, there are lots of things which apps could do in the past which either don't work in the new security architecture, or need to change due to the OS's internal implementation differences, or whatever.

I wasn't meaning my statement to be taken in a different context and imply that there was 100% compatibility even with undocumented and unsupported things... merely that the existing tool can be used to make a perfectly fine app on 6.x. Lots of people assume you HAVE to use PODS to run on 6.x, and that was what I wanted to correct.

Now /that/ I'm comfortable reading <grin> (Mostly). The "supported" things of yesterday are the unsupported things of today. No problem - This is a part of a developing OS and a part of life (not to mention it give us programmers something to do!).

As for writing a feature-rich keyboard driver: I bet you'll find that unless the app or system has requested a high level of security, you could do what you need via the new patching mechanism... remember you can still patch any API the app calls, and run in its space, unless it wants to be secure.
"new patching mechanism"?? - Clearly I am not fully up to speed with the current capabilities. You won't hear from me on this until after I've become "currently current" (again <grin>).

(Hard to believe I need to be encouraging creative hacking... what a switch!)
<grin>
