Unfortunately, this limitation may be a necessary evil. If I, as customer, find it just as easy to buy a program from an ESD as from the developer site and if the price at the developer site was smaller, guess which one I'd probably buy? ESDs do need at least some sales and commissions at their own site in order to cover their costs and make a decent profit, a living for their owners. It is tempting to price software lower at my own website and try to drive sales there, but this is only because the Big ESDs' commissions seem excessive. If they were lower, I wouldn't care too much and wouldn't mind having to set the same price at my own website.
