It's mentioned in the documentation for ebuild format repositories:

http://paludis.pioto.org/configuration/erepository.html

It shouldn't be on the main repositories page because it's a format
specific key. As I recall, Paludis moans noisily if you don't have the
key set anyway.

The difference between "fast enough" and "instant" is irrelevant. We
optimise where it matters -- for an example that makes sense, see the
names cache, which makes paludis -q foo nearly instantaneous as opposed
to taking a minute or more on cold disk cache.

The difference between correct and incorrect is also important. eix
gets you wrong answers instantly, whereas inquisitio gets you right
answers quickly enough.

Not until eix uses the Paludis API to access configuration and ebuild
information.
