Hi Wolfgang,

since you are coming from the german speaking area (derived from your
@web.de address)
I can recommend a FREE webspace hoster:

http://bplaced.net

They are offering extremely good free hosting with very little
limitations (2 plans: 1GB or 2GB webspace - only the amount of MySQL,
PgSQL & FTP Accounts is different)
The only catch is that you HAVE to log into the control panel every 3
months.
Support on Bplaced is excellent - fast & competent.
I have a couple of sites (forums) running on that host and had no
problems whatsoever - only at times the servers get a little slow.
Limit is that pure filehosting & cross linking & Browsergames/Chats/
other load creating sites are not allowed.

As for paid hosting, I use
http://www.dreamhost.com
(if you are lucky to catch a bonus offer, the hosting there is
extremely cheap) - Dreamhost so far has offered absolutely great
service.
