I will admit I much prefer Peter Jackson's King Kong remake to Dino DeLaurentis'. The effects were incredible, and he managed to add quite a bit of pathos to Kong as a character by showing where the other apes had died, leaving him as the last of his kind. Jack Black's character was much more of a buffoon than the character in the original, but at least he wasn't the formulaic snob that Charles Grodin was in the '76 version.

I, for one, did not "mind" the King Kong remake. No, it was not the classic and it is not going to BE a classic.... but I enjoyed the art and SFX. I thought the American Godzilla stank as a story and as far as any acting is concerned... but I never watched Godzilla for the acting. It was the monster... and I can compartmentalize this movie as something different than the "real" Godzilla. It was a fun flick for a waste of time. But over all... most of the remakes today lose the soul of the originals because it is all about MONEY and bean-counting. The studios was tried and true movies rather then innovation and experimentation because they want the built in fan base to bring money even if the flick is a stinker.
