The same here: A customer of mine has an HP-2727M which we wanted to
work with a print server. It doesn't work because of a special
implemented USB interface on the HP-2727M and there was NO answer from
HP. IMHO simple forget HP!

Did you ever think of Brother? I used a MFC-5890CN until last week and
upgraded this weekend to a Brother MFC-6890CDW. Both devices have IMHO a
great value for money. There are drivers for nearly all operating
systems including Windows 7 (AFAIK!) and Linux (which I use).

Both devices have a USB and a LAN interface with a nearly complete set
of network protocols. I prefer connecting a printer using a LAN
interface and my only complaint is the missing web frontend.

Me too, and they are working without troubles. Brother doesn't use
"chip-branded" cartridges!

I don't know wether this is available.

You're welcome.
