I appreciate all the responses I've had to my question. I think I realize what
my problem is. Where I'm relying on somebody else buying my supplies and
conserving money any place possible, I don't buy the HP new cartridges. I buy
all my supplies from Amazon.com and the ink cartridges are refills where, as
somebody mentioned earlier, might not be compatible with the HP photo paper.
Unfortunately, I do not have the financial means to try different inks and
papers.

I think my solution to this is to continue using the 67# plain paper and find a
way to gloss-cote the cars after assembly. The aircraft and sci-fi I've built
look right without any finish. I did like the solution of spraying with the
artists spray.

Which brand of photo-paper seems to work best? The only brand I've tried is HP
but I've heard some builders recommend Canon.

I understood the issue to be the coating on the paper.

The coating on the paper must have sufficient porosity for the ink to penetrate
through to the paper beneath the surface.

That can be solved by changing the ink to one with smaller color particles, or
change to a paper wither greater porosity.

You cannot change the ink without changing the printer so change the paper.

I have had paper that simply would not take the ink at all to paper that would
appear to never dry.

I changed papers several times. Ilford works for me.

You’ll have to sort around and try several Photo papers Many are not compatible
wilt all inks.

Try Ilford.

I'm fairly new to the paper modeling hobby. I've built some sci-fi, one 1/72
and two 1/32 aircraft and one 1/18 car. All of these I've built from card
stock. Recently, I decided to step it up and try assembling on photo paper but
didn't have very good results. I have an HP Deskjet 5440 photo printer and was
using HP glossy photo paper. My issue was that even after about a day, even
though the ink was dry to the touch, it still came off just from the slightest
touch like paper moving on top of it of accidently with a fingertip. Needless
to say, I've become quite dissappointed with this type of assembly as it isn't
as much fun.

My question is, for cars, is there a safe spray gloss finish I can apply after
assembly?

Thanks
