Hi Judy.  I have the same sound card and I'm also experiencing something 
with it that I don't understand. But first, your situation. the speakers 
should definitely mute when you plug in headphones.  Your speakers should be 
plugged into the third jack from the right on the back, when viewed while 
facing the front of the computer. If that is the case, then headphones 
plugged into their front pannel jack ought to mute the speakers. I'm not 
sure about the mic  issue as I haven't used one with this system as yet. 
Still, I don't think that speakers are automatically muted when the mic is 
engaged. Is there any difference when you have the headphone jack  only 
plugged in? Maybe the combination of the mic jack and headphone jack both 
being plugged in is causing your speakers to remain engaged? In that case, 
the simplest work around would, as you have no doubt deduced, be to simply 
turn the speakers down or off when using your headset.

My problem also lives on the card's front pannel. I'm trying to access the 
auxiliary-in  jacks on the front pannel. To me, logically sound should come 
through the spekers as they are the line out counterpoint to the auxiliary's 
line in.  Am I missing a step here?

Hi,
I have a soundBlaster audigy 2 internal card. I have been using a mic
plugged into the back of the card.  I just bought a headset microphone.  I
pluged the headset and mic in to the front pannel.
Two things are happening.  First of all, when I plug in the headset, it
isn't muting the external speakers connected in the back. How do I fix 
this?

The second thing is that when the mic in the front is selected and plugged
in I can hear it through the headphones or the speakers when they are 
turned
up. This is causing feedback--it's acting like a pa system.

Any help would be appreciated...
