Having side cover[s] off ruins the cooling airflow path and allows the
cpu and other heat radiating devices to raise the ambient temperature up
to 15 degrees in their vicinity. May not cause problems depending on
user site temperatures to begin with.
If you want covers off, use a small 12"-16" tabletop fan to blow cooling
air over the motherboard.
