Flicker,
I don't think you told us whether or not the Mac booted correctly BEFORE you
tried doing the reformat. Did it?

>YES

You mentioned that "the Apple Setup didn't want to do the intialization...".
Did you try using a newer version, at least v1.7.3 of Drive Setup?

>YES

What happens if you unplug the SCSI and power cables from the drive?

>DON'T KNOW, DIDN'T CRACK OPEN THE BOX

Can you start up on a floppy or CD then? If not, then something else is
preventing startup besides the hard drive.

>NO.

Can you hear the drive spin up when you attempt to start up on it?

>NOT SURE. WHAT WOULD IT SOUND LIKE?

You're trying all of this with ALL other devices DISCONNECTED, right?

>NO

Do you have a copy of FWB ToolKit? I've come across some older drives that
would not format and run correctly unless I used FWB. I think their
database of hard drive may be more extensive than a lot of other formatting
tools. I used to use APS PowerTools religiously, and SilverLining, FWB, and
Drive Setup sometimes. In the past few years I've stuck with Apple's Drive
Setup and when necessary FWB Toolkit.

I HAVE THE LITE VERSION OF FWB, VERSION 2.0 FROM A STARMAX START-UP CD. THE
INTERNAL DRIVE IS A QUANTUM FIREBALL 1.2 GB. THAT SHOULD BE THE ORIGINAL
DRIVE TOO. AS YOU WILL SEE FROM MY RESPONSE TO CLARK, I GOT IT GOING BY
CHANGING THE SCSI TERMINATION NUMBER ON THE EXTERNAL TSUNAMI DRIVE (WHICH I
STILL CAN'T FIGURE SINCE I TRIED TO START UP WITHOUT THAT DRIVE ATTACHED AT
ALL). ANYWAY, PERHAPS SILVERLINING REASSIGNED THE SCSI BUS OR THE
TERMINATION INSTRUCTIONS, I DON'T KNOW. IT'S NOW HALF THROUGH THE BAD BLOCKS
TEST SINCE THIS TIME I'M USING SYSTEM 7.6 CD-ROM AND IT INITIALIZED THE DISK
WITH NO PROBLEM. I'M VEXED. I'M CERTAIN MISS CLEO HAS CAST A SPELL ON ME.
BYTCH!!

I've been through similar situations, and can relate to your frustration.

YO RIPCA WHAT FRUSTRATION!!?? THIS IS WHAT OWNING A MAC IS ALL ABOUT DAWG!!

Keep trying and good luck!
Let us know how it's going.
Mike Ripca

Right, but it is not loading (Silverlining). There is nothing beyond the
gray screen, the arrow, then FREEZE. And why wouldn't the CD-ROM or floppy
or an external SCSI drive load if I use them (with the appropriate command
key combos where relevent)?
