Never seen a LaserWriter I didn't like including my ol' LW Select 310. I had
a IIntx at a newspaper that one of the production girls didn't like, but I
thought it was super, quiet, mostly fast, but probably needed a memory
upgrade (which you should always do, so get two and rob the RAM). The beauty
of a LaserWriter is that no human is going to discern ANY print quality
difference, and they are much more economical to operate.

They do spit out ozone, so if you asthma, you may want to hermetically seal
the machine in a medical-quality bubble (just kidding, just get an air
ionizer/purifier and leave the room for the short burst of ozone). Itsy
bitsy bits of toner will also float in the air, so the air purifier is
really a good idea for any home office regardless.. You change a toner
cartridge once in a blue moon. Be sure to rock your toner cartridge once or
twice a week by taking it out of the cradle and tilting it back and forth a
few times to prevent settling.

Any LW is better than the highest priced ink jet. You did say Black & White
was OK, right???? =p

Ink jets are a sales gimmick. They shouldn't exist, but if they lower the
prices of LWs, they'll have to admit they were in Gatesian fashion screwing
their customers all along. Of course, I have an Epson ink jet, and I'll have
to pay $100 in ink before I've even used 1/100th of the toner in my LW
Select 310. The LW is faster, cheaper and ultimately a better machine that
the Epson 740. But you network the LW Select 300 or 310. They are monogamous
and mate for life.

One thing to watch for with LWs is putting the box back together after you
undo the 158 screws that it takes to get inside it. You don't want to
misalign the feeders like I did so that your front-end loading tray doesn't
work. Listen to that other guy and get one for the cost of postage. There
are Mac Yodas who collect these things, but they take up horrible room and
they're heavy so they'll let 'em go fo' free. Apple MacOS disks have all the
software you'll need. Apple LWs are the best, most rock solid printers wot
ever came off a production line. There, I think I patronized you, Apple,
myself and everyone else. All the best..............
