Can someone please help me out with scanner problems/termination? I'm just
learning the ins and outs.
I've bought a scanner to hook up to my PM7300/200. When the scanner is
connected and powered on, the Mac will not start up completely. It
initially starts up and then just stops until I turn the scanner off, at
which point the Mac resumes the start-up process.
I use the Apple system profiler and SCSIProbe5.2, and I find that the HD
doesn't recognize the scanner, which has ID 5.
I went to a nearby store, bought an external active terminator, attached
it, and powered up to the same problem.
Next, I removed the little plastic clip from the back of the CD ROM. Above
the clip was labeled "Term." Then, I tried to start up the Mac. This
time, it started up flawlessly, so I figured that I was in business.
I went back to SCSIProbe5.2 and the Apple sys. prof. and found that the HD
still doesn't recognize the scanner.
Any advice? Bear in mind that I know the terms "jumper" and "termination"
but that I don't have a complete understanding of them because I haven't
had to deal with them before.
