yes, up until recently, i've had anywhere from 49333 to 50666 on this 
very same line.

yeah, someone else on-list mentioned it. i haven't had enough time to 
look at it yet.

the phone lines are unstable in this old house i suspect.

yeah, me too. usually (when it works right) i'd get a bad one at 33k, 
then i'd cancel it, and connect at 49k or 50k after.
