Chris,
If you're really looking for the better deal, then I'd go for whatever's
cheaper, because there's realy no difference btwn the two, as far as
technical specifications go.
Ahhh, here's a quote from LEM ( www.lowendmac.com )
"The 7300 is pretty much the same computer as the 7600, except that it has a
faster CPU [although they're both availiable with 200mhz 604e Processors with
50mhz busses] and a special cover that makes it harder to dismantle the case
(important in settings where users might steal RAM, drives, etc.).
The 7300 seems to be the only time Apple has improved a computer and given it
a lower model number. This could be due to removing the video in capability."
So if you're going to be pulling the machine apart a lot to do things inside
it I'd go for a 7600 (I have one and it's a joy to open up because it's so
easy). They both came with the same hard drives originally, they can handle
the same amount of memory, Vram, etc.
So in my opinion there's really no difference (don't rush out and bye it
before other people respond though) and you should go for whatever's cheaper.
Also, if you're set on upgrading them, go for that processor upgrade, and
maybe an ATA/66 controller. That would boost speed up to a really nice
level. (that's only if you're getting the machine at under 100 bucks.
Otherwise, it's wiser to get a beige G3 desktop; Same case, faster bus speed
and faster components for around the same price as the 7x00 would be with
just a few upgrades<--- VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW :oP Because I was considering
upgrading my 7600/200, and then I saw that you can get G3 desktops on ebay
for around 350...and I decided against it.
