The drive will be bootable if you makes sure the drive has a Plextor or
TEAC mechanism. (TEAC and Plextor manufacture the laser mechanisms for
these drives) It will also be compatible with Toast 5, which you can
purchase for a nominal price. Ever consider an ATA card? I bought a
Sonnet TempoATA100 card for my 6400/400 and i used it to hook up an
internal IDE CDRW (Which was damn cheap) and a two drive RAID array on
the other IDE chain. The card only cost $99 and the drive was $99.99 so
for the price of a SCSI CDRW I got internal RAID and more and faster IDE
chains. This can be useful for things like cheap fast (9600 RPM) HUGE IDE
disks, IDE ZIP and ORB disks, and it also works in Mac OSX without any
special drivers. Also, if you bought a Radeon, you could get an IDE DVD
and have hardware DVD acelleration, which I think I will do this week.

There are all kinds of solutions to this problem, including firewire and
usb drives and cards and external SCSI. i hope you find a solution that
will fullfill all your needs:)
