Toast Reader extension and CD/DVD Tools 5.7 will recognize the Yamaha
CRW8424S. I have it mounted externally and have never tried to boot from the
drive. Since it does not have an Apple ROM you would have to do the
4-fingered salute or probably from the startup panel.

There is a problem with using a CD/RW as a normal drive, at least the older
models. The motor might not last as long as it should if you use it a lot
doing both burning and reading. I wonder if anyone knows some hard facts on
this for sure.
