The 8500 will not do more than 320x240 30fps. The DV/Firewire/newMac 
solution will do the whole screen much more efficiently on a new Mac 
(or recent).

You'll need loads of hard drive space, as fast as possible. Don't 
plan on anything more than a few minutes, unless you have masses of 
drive space.

The good news is the 8500 has hardware pixel doubling that will 
export your 320x240 video at 640x480 (it does PAL too). While doing 
this it sort of smooths out the image. In some cases, it's hard to 
tell that it ever originated from 320x240. I've had some pretty good 
results.

I wouldn't bother with a stock Apple card. Since the introduction of 
the 8500, others have produced cards that are much faster using the 
same processors used in today Macs (G3/G4). There are several brands 
up to 500mhz. Check out:
