The message indicates you have an OS 9.1 disk intended for a specific 
model Mac computer not a generic retail OS CD.   If you are running 
8.5, I would suggest downloading the free update to 8.6 from Apple. 
I use 8.6 with USB and it is extremely stable on my 9600.
