I was experiencing similar problems on my 8500/132. I tried the same clean
reinstall since my drive is a 3rd party. No good .  Similar problems as
yours popped up. I used an external drive to run Norton's and a comparison
check with TechTools Pro. When I upgraded memory and stopped using Virtual
Memory, I failed to think to check for drive fragmentation. There in lay my
problem. It's crusing along at high altitude now.
