I have recently run into a catch 22 with my (Sonnet Crescendo G4 equipped) 7600 system HD. Norton indicates there is considerable fragmentation, but it will not perform Speed disk on the system disk which is currently running. I have tried to create a special boot CD by first installing the standard Apple system (which will not start the Sonnet alone) on a disk image, then augmenting that with the G4 enabler files which the Sonnet install disk provides. (Similar to the proceedure necessary when we first installed the upgrade) I did make sure that toast 5 showed the new disk would be bootable, but unfortunately each time I attempt booting with it, (as well as the second CD attempt at doing the same thing) the screen hangs at the point where the little "Original Compact Mac" smiling icon is centered in the middle of a grey screen!
How do I get an outside system to boot my upgraded machine and run robustly enough to allow Norton to defrag the original system disk? ===== Don & Kathy Wakefield DTPetc!
