Don:

A couple of suggestions:

1) Do you have any SCSI external devices hooked up? Unlikely, but hanging at
startup could be caused by that. I'd disconnect everything from the box.

2) Have you cleared up space on your HD to alleviate the frgamenting
problem? The reason I ask is, you should be able to run a less-than-thorough
defrag with Speed Disk just by running the application -- not starting up
from a separate disk. (It gathers up the pieces of files and writes them to
contiguous available space) However, if you don't have enough space
available on your HD, you (a) won't be able to run it, and (b) will have the
same fragmented file problem before too long.

3) Failing all that, you may want to try putting your old processor back in
and trying the Norton Disk.
