I have read the pros and cons of interleaving RAM regarding G3/G4 processor
upgrades but here is a twist I was unaware of.

When I interleave new RAM in my 7300 (OS 8.6 and 9.1) with a NewerTech
604e/200 and 512 L2 cache the network (Ethernet10baseT) connection slowed to
a crawl. Here's the details.

Got four new 128 RAM DIMMs a couple a few weeks ago for my 7300 and 7500

Thought it best to test them; so pulled all the old RAM in the 7300 and
installed the DIMMs in slots A4,B4,A3,B3. Ran both Tech Tool's RAM test and
RAMometer with no problems indicated.

During the following week all apps seem to work OK. And the computer was
stable -- except the Ethernet slowed to a crawl. When connecting to the
iTunes server; at best the music would start/stop repeatedly. Most of the
time the music would not even start and iTunes would have to be forcibly
quit. The same slow transfer rate applied to copying files over the network.

I checked all Ethernet connections and even tried an another hub -- no go.
Then I put the old ram back in and iTunes played perfectly.

Then I ran an iTunes test with each of the new RAM sticks. They all worked
unless they were interleaved. If two sticks were interleaved iTunes would
play music for about 15-20 secs and then stop and then start again. With both
sticks interleaved iTunes would basically lock up. iTunes would play OK with
all 4 sticks installed if they were not interleaved.

Old RAM 4-128's Velocity Upgrades #165N166AB6S + 2-64's from another source
New RAM 4-128's Velocity Upgrades #165N166AB62

I'm presently running the new RAM (not interleaved) and has been working. Has
anyone experienced this? Perhaps I just missing something obvious, or is this
just another example of bad RAM -- any ideas?
