Hi, Terry - I used to have problems like that (I'm a confuser dumbskull < grin >) until I sprang for Conflict Catcher and, later, Extensions Overload. I made a *full* clean install of 8.6, used Conflict Catcher to tidy up. I've put the Apple Extensions Manager in "Disabled", and I use both CC and EO to go, line-by-line through everything that's loaded - - - either getting rid of what I don't need or putting the offending extension into the Disabled folder. Why both CC and EO? Well, each explains the utility of every extension in a slightly different way. It was EO that told me: "Never either to remove or to disable the Text Encoding Converter because your Mac requires it for startup." IMHO, these two complimentary utilities (although initially expensive) should be in every Mac user's inventory - - - - and updates were/are free. When we upgraded to 9.0 and later to 9.0.4, I went through the same procedures. It worked! Best, George -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
