Hi I was wondering is anybody has had any trouble with using a 7200/75 with OS 8.6 and using internet applications. I have 2 7200/75 but only one of them (it has 80 megs of ram) is used for internet access. I sold a 7200/75 w/ 54 mgs ram (OS 8.6) to a friend, who is also having problems.
Both machines freeze frequently when using Netscape, icab, and IE. Its almost a waste of time for them to try an use MSN messenger as it rarely will allow a connection and once you do have a connection it will almost always freeze the machine. Now before you say get rid of the "microslop" software, I know lots of other people on macs that can use it. I have read the apple knowledge base and have done almost everything I could find. I deleted the QuickTime jpeg extension, I turned off the appearance manager, and I installed OS 8.6 font fixer (or what ever its called) - both pieces of it. I also turned off all quick draw extensions, just in case. Nothing seems to help. In the case of my daughters computer I have tried wiping the drive and only having the operating system and what's been installed from apple and it still freezes. My friend is so frustrated, she's talking about going to pc just so she can use MSN messenger (her family is in Venezuela and they use MSN). Both are connected to internet using cable connections. Is there some problem with this model OS 8.6 and the internet? Does anyone else have this problem? Will moving down to OS 8.1 help anything? I would hate to see her move to a pc... And I would trade a 7100/60 with more memory and a bigger hard drive with my friend for her 7200/75 if that would work better.
