By the way, it seems that I find more dead 17" monitors, that 14" or 15". Is
it because of the power demands because of the large screen?

Partly.

17" is more or less the "sweet spot" for monitors right now, so a lot of them
are failing for the reason you mentioned.

However, 20" monitors fail at a higher rate than do either 17" or 14".

Failure rate is directly proportional to the screen size ... the larger the
screen, the higher the failure rate.

0.28 pitch on a 20" monitor is not bad. 0.25 pitch is certainly better,
especially if the resolution is above 1152 x 870.

My 0.28 pitch Sony Multiscan HG 20" had a list price of close to $2,000 when
I got it, and it is still working fine ... knock on wood.

But, today, a $159 19" monitor from Fry's is 0.25 pitch, is brighter than the
Sony, and can do resolutions much higher than 1152 x 870, which is the Sony's
limit.

A lot has happened in the six or so years since I bought my Sony, and that's
a LONG time for a 20" monitor to last.
