DAVE did the same thing to me. The FAQs on the Thursby web site suggest booting with extensions off, which will then allow the DAVE setup program to finish through. After that, it is unclear how you can browse the Windows network. It really isn't documented well, and I suspect it is a problem with Windows filesharing not being set up right on the PC side of things. I personally don't like DAVE very much --- it isn't as easy as it claims to be. What I tend to do instead is turn Web Sharing on for all computers on my network and just drop files I want available on the other machines into the document root.
