web free (shareware) is fairly useful for blocking all the ads and
popups, i'm on a slow dialup and i've found most of the ad servers are
really overloaded and slow down otherwise fast pages. when it's really
bad i just turn off java script which doesn't block ads but it does stop
pop ups. i've also set my firewall to block most of the popup and ad
servers, the firewall approach works really well except for pages that
have java script that loops until it can get the ads, in which case you
just wait a second and hit the stop key or turn off the java script.
truth be told i do allot of surfing with java script off, you rarely
miss anything worth while although you usually have to toggle it on to
shop online.
