I predict a backlash against popups soon, as pop-up ad filters become more
widespread. I use a custom proxy on a Unix server myself (natch, the Unix
server is an Apple Network Server 500).

One ad format which I think is a good compromise is the ad format on
GeoCities: the ad displays briefly, then folds itself away into the top
corner. This achieves its display, allows people to still click on it, but
doesn't bug the merde out of people if you don't care about it. But the
pop-ups the rest of Yahoo uses that show up *behind* windows I think are
frankly dishonest, almost.
