Hello All,

BLISS! I stumbled on this page after 5 days research using a VERY slow
internet connection to try to decide how to upgrade. Having absorbed from
the net all that my intellect could handle, the e-waters were still muddy.

History:
I bought a second-hand 7500/100 with 64RAM memory three years ago. This
was/is my first computer (really, I knew NOTHINGGG, as Schultz used to say
to Klink...this will tell you my age!).

I have been very happy with it until recently when I made a brochure on MS
Word which included scanned photos + text. My machine slowed to a crawl (at
best) by the time I got to the second page, or else froze solid.

Normally, I use:
MS Word,
Photo Deluxe (Adobe), and ACDSee (opens VERY slowly) for editing.

Plugged into the back of the 7500 I have:
1.) Epson InkJet Printer 740 (Unbearably slow if there is any other
operation in progress)
2.) US-Robotics modem
3.) Iomega Zip 100. (zip disk gizmo).

I just bought:
4.) A scanner: Epson Perfection 1250 (1200x2400 dpi)
5.) Cordless MouseMan Optical (Logitech) mouse
6.) A Belkin card with 2 USB ports so that I can connect Nos. 4 and 5.

Questions:

1. Should I return the Belkin card and get another one with more than 2 USB
ports and, perhaps, two "FireWire" ports? I believe FireWire has to do with
video, which I do not use, but in the (quite distant) future I might buy a
digital camera. Besides, the two USB ports will be filled up immediately.
If it generally speeds up the applications mentioned above, I would be
happy.

2. After my week of reading, I think I should get a Sonnet G3/450/250
upgrade card. It costs US$150, which I have to convert to Canadian dollars,
plus duty. I am happy running OS 8.6. The Canadian suppliers want Can.$349
for the 500MHz, which, from reading your site, I probably do not need.

3. OWC has OWC 5V EDO DIMMs:
 128MB 168 Pin Mac 5V DIMM 60NS 4K FPM EDO (2K per bank) w/Lifetime Warranty
(OWC5MD128MBE) for US$27.95.
At this price I can afford to buy 4 of them, totalling 512MB.

Would some kind soul glance over the above and say "OK", or "nay", and
perhaps help with some fine-tuning where necessary? I would VERY much
appreciate it. This is my best research effort, but if I am forgetting
something, finding out what it is and adding it to the cost of the existing
shipment would save time and money.

Many thanks,
Joan
