I was looking at it from the angle of using it in a 7600.

There was a 9500/180 MP, too. I believe there were some MP clones that had 
604e chips that were faster.

That may have been a bit of "puffery", to advertise it at the doubled rate.
At least Apple was more honest, as they usually are (usually to their 
disadvantage, in a world of hypesters. -- Witness any monitor maker's 
"viewable areas".)
